Our story

Vintage soul, modern pioneer heart.

Where the destination IS the journey. A love letter to Big Bear's wild heart, written in dark wood, brass, and the warm glow of an amber pendant at dusk.

Our story

A 1970s summer-camp lodge reborn.

A former 1970s summer-camp lodge reborn as a vintage-chic hideaway, The Burgundy is our love letter to Big Bear's wild heart. We kept the dark wood, brass fixtures, and record-player charm — but added modern comfort, lake-to-table partners, and spaces that spark connection: fire-pit circles, poolside loungers, vinyl-spun lounges.

Born from a 1970s camp lodge, The Burgundy curates mid-century design, quirky art, and pine-scented stillness into one seamless playground. Every beam of dark wood, every brass fixture, and every record spinning at dusk honors the same promise: exploration, intimacy, and fun.

Why we're here

Our purpose.

"Our purpose is to deepen our connection to nature, each other, and ourselves. We do this by interweaving art, healing, and nature into a self-curated social adventure."

Our mission is to deepen connection — to nature, to community, and to self — while sparking unexpected laughter along the way. We fuse art-chitecture with alpine wilds to create sacred, joy-filled spaces.

What we believe

Five values behind every detail.

01

Honor the past

The 70s soul of this property is the thing that makes it sing. We don't sand it down — we tune it up.

02

Small & specific

Eight rooms. One bar. We'd rather know every guest's name than scale into a chain.

03

Art over polish

Curated mid-century pieces, commissioned art, vintage finds — never the same room twice, never out of a catalog.

04

Gather, don't isolate

Fire pits, the bar, the vinyl lounge, the pool. Spaces built to bump strangers into friends.

05

Bring the dog

Pet-friendly on every room. Family is family. The four-leggeds get the cookie at check-in.

Meet Cedarwood

A small group of partners with a big love for this mountain.

The Burgundy is owned and operated by Cedarwood Asset Management — a small group of partners who've spent the last decade quietly building boutique hospitality in Big Bear Lake. We're the same team behind Sessions Retreat & Hotel, our sister property a few minutes across town.

Frank Caruso is our partner and general manager — he lives in Big Bear, runs both hotels, and is probably the person who'll greet you at check-in. Matt Fistonich, Clif Erwin, and Robert Goodman round out the partnership, all working between San Diego and the mountain.

Our sister property

For larger weddings, retreats, and off-sites, we partner with Sessions Retreat & Hotel — a 36-key property with a full event hall, on-site bar, and the same hospitality DNA.

If your gathering is too big for The Burgundy alone, ask about a combined-property buyout.
